Non-Discrimination Policy
Effective Date: May 29, 2026
Last Updated: May 29, 2026
Chico Housing Action Team (CHAT) is committed to providing equal opportunity in housing, employment, programs, services, and all organizational activities.
CHAT does not discriminate against any resident, applicant, employee, volunteer, contractor, or participant on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, ethnicity, citizenship status, age, disability, medical condition, marital status, familial status, veteran status, military status, political affiliation, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
This commitment applies to all aspects of housing, employment, volunteer engagement, service delivery, and organizational operations, including but not limited to admissions, housing opportunities, hiring, promotion, compensation, benefits, training, disciplinary actions, termination, and access to programs and services.
CHAT is committed to maintaining an environment free from discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and offensive conduct. Any employee, resident, applicant, volunteer, or individual seeking housing, services, or assistance through CHAT who believes they have experienced discrimination, harassment, or retaliation is encouraged to report the matter promptly.
Reports should be directed to the Executive Director, who will ensure that a prompt, thorough, and impartial investigation is conducted. Investigations will be handled as confidentially as possible while allowing for a fair review of the complaint and appropriate corrective action.
If a complaint involves the Executive Director, the matter may be reported directly to the President or Vice President of the Board of Directors.
CHAT strictly prohibits retaliation against any individual who, in good faith, reports discrimination or harassment, participates in an investigation, or exercises rights protected under applicable law. Retaliation of any kind is grounds for corrective action.
CHAT complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair housing, equal employment opportunity, accessibility, and anti-discrimination laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Housing Act. CHAT also provides training and education as required by law and organizational policy to support a respectful, inclusive, and equitable environment for all.
